Today Muslims working in different organizations have learned by experience and come to the conclusion that they must “unite” in order to reach their big goals such as establishing an Islamic state or gaining political power but they did not manage to do it yet. This is mainly because they have not yet been able to systematize the thought. They failed to unite because each one of the groups criticizes the others (rightfully) and can find mistakes in what they think and act. The fact is that the Unity can only be achieved by the scholarly authorities i.e. the scholars who have the good knowledge of Islam and Modernity. This is because only the full-fledged knowledge or higher knowledge puts an end to the disputes between the rival groups. This is also what brings about the “relations of obedience.” As is known, men can not bend over backwards for the sake of a cause unless their hearts and minds are convinced deservedly. Perhaps their loyalty to a cause may continue for other reasons but this is not a genuine one. We should understand the well-known verse of surah-al Ali İmran, i.e. “you will be superior if you are true believers” within this framework. What makes Muslims show their full potentials is certainly the Faith based on “knowledge” and “truth.” Man can lay down his life or whatever he possesses only in the “right way” or for the sake of “the Truth.” This is true for the all religions or ideologies. The faithful in every religion believes that the truth is only in his religion or ideology and thereby sacrifice his life for the sake of his cause. So, believing wholeheartedly is the first and foremost condition of success. It is the essential condition for the “Unity” too. The problem of Unity and obedience will be solved when the thought is systematized.
In fact, a similar situation existed when the Qoran was revealed. That is to say, when it started to reveal this meant that the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Unity were already met. In another saying, in the Era of Bliss both the Qoran was revealed as “the Truth” and also the Prophet existed as a problem-solver and an authority to be obeyed. Today, on the other hand, there are many conflicting views or interpretations about the Qoran even though we have a single Scripture, and there are many different groups and sects as much as these conflicting views and interpretations. So, to know or not to know the Truth: that is the problem Muslims are facing today. The Qoran represents the Truth but we could not make use of it because it is not read and understood correctly, and correspondingly we have serious problems and many difficulties in relations of obedience.
The real reason why Muslims do not give their allegience to a leader with inner peace is that those ones who claim leadership have not been able to reach the level of scholarly competence required to win the hearts and minds of the people yet. This is simply because “the heirs of the Prophets are the scholars.” If the knowledge level of our scholars is low, then we face inevitably serious problems in relations of obedience since Muslims obey them not because they are simply leaders but because they believe that they know and tell the truth. If people can not be convinced that their scholars represent the Truth deservedly, then their obeyence to the scholars - or leaders - will not be naturally in desired level.
